AFTER THE BIG MOVE:
Unpacking is a great feeling. The home is now yours and it will take time, but eventually each personal item will find it's place. As the dust settles it will be important to make time for the following non-packing details.
- Make address labels or buy a stamp with your new address. Did you remember to tell everyone that you moved? Magazines, utilities (did you set up cable or satellite), employer, friends and family are just a few that need to know. Of course, there are probably many more.
- Consider changing the locks. It's a little paranoid, but it will give you a peace of mind.
- Did you learn where the closest hospital is? Did you have time to discover the closest grocery store and gas station?
- Pets: do you know where you can go for vet services?
- Did you move to a new state? Not only do you get the privilege of getting a new driver’s license, but you also probably need to register your vehicles.
- While it is kind and the right thing to do by leaving a house as clean as a person can...it's not unusual to find some things you wish you didn't have to deal with (I once got a pool table I didn't appreciate) and it's not required for the home to be a bit lived in. Not everyone can and will leave a home spotless. I once cleaned a stove for over 2 hours (same house) to make it presentable again.
- Lastly, did you find where the water turn-off valve is and electrical lock box?
