Tips for Moving to the Minneapolis (and surrounding areas)
If you're relocating to the Minneapolis area, you'll want to know what to expect. Our state is a great place to live, but it's not for everyone. This post will give you some tips and information about living in this vibrant city.
Where to live
The Twin Cities are a sprawling metropolitan area that can be hard to navigate, but there are some great neighborhoods to consider. If you're looking for a place with lots of outdoor activities and walkability, you may want to look at some of the following cities:
Minneapolis
St Paul (the state capital)
Edina - This suburb has its own downtown area, which is quite nice! Plus it's close enough that you can still get downtown easily by car or public transit if need be. It's also home to Southdale Mall--a good shopping mall if nothing else! Edina also has many biking trails along its creekside parks that run through town; these trails connect with other nearby cities such as Richfield and Bloomington so they're easy access points as well!
Schools
There are many excellent schools to choose from in Minneapolis and surrounding communities.
The best school district for your child's academic needs is determined by factors such as academic performance, teacher quality and student diversity (including special education). To find the best school districts in the area:
Visit the Minnesota Department of Education and enter your address into their search bar; they'll give you information on all nearby public and private schools available within walking distance of your home address!
If you're looking specifically for schools that meet certain criteria--like those serving gifted students or children with learning disabilities--you can narrow down your search by using sites like Niche (which ranks private institutions) or GreatSchools (which rates public ones).
Weather
Minnesota has four seasons, and you should be prepared for each one. Summer is hot and humid, winter is cold and snowy (it's common to see snow on the ground from November through April), spring is warm and beautiful (the trees are in bloom), fall brings cooler temperatures but also colorful leaves!
The one thing you need to watch out for when moving here is lake effect snowstorms--they can be quite severe depending on where exactly you live within Minnesota.
How much should I budget for house hunting?
The cost of house hunting depends on your needs. If you want a nice house, with lots of space and modern amenities, expect to pay more than the average price.
The average cost of a house in Minneapolis is $300,000; this includes condos as well as single-family homes. The average price in St. Paul is $250K and in Bloomington it's $220K--but these figures can vary depending on location within each city/township area.
It's important to know what you're getting into before you move to a new city.
The Minneapolis area has its own unique characteristics, which are different from other parts of the country. If you're thinking about making this move, here are some things to consider:
Your budget: Are you looking for something affordable? Do you have high standards when it comes to comfort? Do cost and quality matter more than location?
The area that fits your needs best: Are there any neighborhoods or towns that would be better suited for raising children versus others? Is there an area where people tend to stay put instead of moving away after college graduation (or earlier)? How far away do people commute from work on average each day--and why does this distance matter so much! What kinds of public transportation options exist nearby so we can get around easily without driving ourselves crazy over time spent commuting every day just trying get back home again after work hours end up being longer than expected because traffic jams were worse than normal due our recent bad weather patterns affecting everyone else as well."
